Bahrain Releases 2008 Census Results

Manama, Bahrain: The government of Bahrain, for the first time since its independence from the not-so-great-anymore Britain in 1971 has released a national census which includes a sectarian breakdown. King Hamad bin 'Isa al-Khalifah announced, in a statement to the press said that he was proud of his country's diversity.

Acording to the census, Bahrain's population data as of June 2008 is as follows:


Total Population: 1.5 million

Muslim: 98%

Sunni: 99%

Majoos (Shi'a): 1%


Christian: 2%


Jews: One infertile couple
